Brian Jordan starts rehab assignment at Rome

Filed under: Team News, Views and Regular Season and Minor Leagues, Draft — Matthew @ 10:56 pm

Brian Jordan began his rehab at Class-A Rome Thursday, approximately one month after he was sidelined with inflammation in his left knee. Jordan has gone 2-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBIs in 2 rehab games thus far but, with the emergence of Jeff Francoeur as the Braves’ everyday right fielder, will likely have his rehabilitation extended to the maximum 20 days. That way the he can return when rosters are expanded in September and still have a chance to be added to the postseason roster. However, I wouldn’t bet on that happening as he was batting .244 with only 3 home runs and 23 RBIs before being placed on the DL.

Johnny Estrada placed on 15-day DL, Brayan Pena recalled from Richmond

Johnny Estrada is still suffering from the aftermath of his collision with Darin Erstad on June 6th. Lower back spasms landed him on the 15-day disabled list Thursday retroactive to August 6th. That makes him eligible to return to active duty on August 21st. Brayan Pena was called up from Triple-A Richmond, for the third time this year, to back up Brian McCann who will now assume starting duties. Methinks Braves fans should expect McCann to be the Braves’ starting catcher the rest of the season (and beyond) and that’s probably a good thing!
