Braves send Alec Zumwalt to Brewers to complete Kolb trade
“Alec who?” That’s what relieved Braves fans are saying to themselves today. Luckily, the Braves gave up no one significant (no offense Alec) as the “player to be named later” in the Danny Kolb-Jose Capellan trade. Zumwalt went 3-7 with 5.09 ERA as a reliever in 46 games for the AA Greenville Braves last season.
This was only Alec’s 2nd season as a pitcher. He did great considering the time he had to refine his mechanics. Give him some credit, he was an outfielder for his whole “career” until the braves switched him. (thats only about 10 months for pitching training(considering off-time) I’m bankin on him being better than anyone is saying!

Hi Blake,
You’re right that’s it too early to pass judgment on Zumwalt. My remarks were meant more to emphasize who the Braves were able to hang onto than to discount Zumwalt’s talent. There were some rumors that one of the top prospects in the Braves system like Zach Miner, James Jurries, or Kevin Barry might be the PTBNL in the deal.

Just wait, when RHP Alec Zumwalt turns the corner and has the experience to match his talent, this trade will look very one sided. I think a point people from both sides are missing with this PTBNL is that Milwaukee choose Zumwalt over these other, more experienced and more well known players
. Zumwalt and Cappellan both have very high ceilings and both should impact the Milwaukee Brewers. I think this trade will favor Milwaukee much more than Atlanta, who with their tradition of bullpen pitchers, Kolb might not be there that long!
